

More details of this piece and the other commissions can be found on Jürgen Ruck’s recording: Jürgen Ruck – Caprichos Goyescos Vol. The pieces were commissioned as part of a concert project of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgartin 2003 a number of compositions were commissioned for the guitarist Jürgen Ruck, based on Goya’s Caprichos. The movements of the Three Caprichos after Goya by Brett Dean are: Que sacrificio Dios la perdone: Y era su madre and No te escaparas.

The programme, featuring music for guitar by Australian composers, includes the première of Gertrude Fragmentsfor mezzo-soprano and guitar by Brett Dean as well as In Amber for guitar, double bass and strings by Phillip Houghton, From Kakadu for solo guitar (1993) by Peter Sculthorpe, Blackwattle Caprices for solo guitar (1998) by Ross Edwards, Three Caprichos after Goya for solo guitar (2003–2004) by Brett Dean, Jovian Moons for guitar and piano by Nigel Westlake and Nourlangie – Concerto for guitar, percussion and string orchestra (1989) by Peter Sculthorpe.

He will be performing with Academy musicians from Australia and abroad including the pianist Joseph Havlat, mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean, the Ardour Quartet, double bass player Joseph Prindl, and the Academy String Orchestraconducted by Jo Cole (RAM Head of Strings). The young Australian guitarist Andrey Lebedev will present a concert of ‘ Australian Music and the Classical Guitar’ on Wednesday 2 March 2016 at the Royal Academy of Music, London.
